Gift Guide: For Her

It’s been awhile since I did a gift guide for me, or for moms. It’s easy for us to overlook our own needs when we have others to love and care for – kids, husbands, family members, pets. You know the drill. These are products I’ve used that I’m recommending – some will com with Amazon affiliate links (I may earn from your purchases), LTK links (I earn from your purchases) and some may just have discount codes (I will let you know when I earn from your purchases). But they’re tried and true, things I can truly recommend. I’m trying to focus on things *just for us* in this one, but maybe you’ll get a family experiece post for gifting in the near future.. we’ll see how much time I can carve out. For now, make time and space for yourself and get your wish list ready (or you cart).

Skincare

I am far from a skincare guru, but I do get to try a fair number of products. I share on my stories often, but these are some of my top picks from this year – things I use daily.

Tula products (code: KATEONTHEBLOG for 15% off – affiliate code)

Specific picks:

I’ve tried a few others – but these are my faves from Tula. The moisturizer is a bit pricy in Canada, but totally worth it IMO. Moisturizer is actually one of those things I will pay more for – because I have dry skin and I need it. Tula is gentle on the skin, doesn’t have an overwhelming scent, and is doctor-created (a gastroenterologist, to be specific – seems weird, but studying probitioics –> probiotic skincare development). It’s clean products too!

There are gift bundles available too and my code works just the same on those!

Element Mom Mega Moisturizing Stretch Mark Cream

No link or code for this one, but it has been a mainstay in my postpartum journey as of late. Does it remove stretch marks? No, of course not but it does seem to reduce their harshness. It also is a clean product, and it is not oily like BioOil – which I have used and liked, but did find messy. This is a good alternative.

Versed products (KATEONTHEBLOG10 for 10% off – just for you!)

Specific picks:

I am just going to try out a few new ones, but these are some of my favourite classics, with the night cream being #1. Versed is also a great clean skincare brand – and they have something for every skin type.

You can choose a bundle of best seller products as a gift for yourself or another.

Keri Lotion

The original dry skin lotion is what I use after showers and as needed on my body for dry spots. I never used to have too many issues except in the winter – my fingers tend to get really dry, as do some other problem spots like my neck. Keri is trusted and has been around for awhile and it does the job. It does rub on thicker but spreads well.

Maybe lotion isn’t the best gift for someone else – but it could make a nice addition to a gift basket or to your own supply.

Makeup

I only have two favourites here because I am not a big makeup user! But there are two products I have been loving this year I highly recommend if you’re in the market for either a mascara or an eyebrow filler. You won’t regret either of the,.

MACStack Mascara

This one was definitely an “influenced” purchase, but so worth it. I have actually always gone to Mac for both spot concealer and blush – so once I heard about this mascara I was like yes please. Worth it. I have minimal, lighter eyelashes and I found this mascara really brings them out and adds volume + length! Highly recommend.

Mascara again is a very personal choice – so it might make a good stocking stuffer for someone you know well, or again, something to put on your own list.

Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW

My other daily go to is this brow pomade – OMG I love it. I actually use this one almost daily because I have been using a lash/brow serum to grow my eyebrows out and fill in the gaps so I haven’t needed to fill them daily as before, but if I’m going out or have a meeting on Zoom – this is the ticket. Easy to apply – if you’re not used to filling brows in then Youtube is full of lots of great tutorials too specifically for this product.

Sephora gift cards always make a good gift!

Haircare

Two of my favourite brands for hair care make GREAT gifts because they come “bundled” if you want. If you have a curly haired mom or friend or anyone in your life – these are both great for curls.

JVN Hair (use JVNKatieHur for 20% off – just for you!)

Specific picks:

This is my current routine – I am obsessed with JVN hair products. They’re clean + available at Sephora too – or you can order online with my code (they’re already a great price without it). Great for curls or those who want to try to add more wave and volume to their hair!

Shop their gift guide for additional gifting ideas.

LUS Brand (code: KATEONTHEBLOG10 for 10% off – affiliate)

MADE IN CANADA. ‘Nuff said. Another great clean product, I recommend their Ultra-Hydration Curl Kit to start because it contains 4 great products. 3 Step System + a bonus deep condition and repair. Another great option is the Curl Reset Kit becuase it also contains the Irish Sea Moss Gel which is a great product.

Right now you get a gift with purchases over 60$ too!

Tangle Teezer

If you have curly hair, you need their wet brush for the shower. It will change your life. Maggie and I both have our own and they’re amazing – especially for her, they get her tangles out with minimal discomfort and fuss. For me, it’s been the best detangler brush I’ve used in the shower and I use it on dry hair too if I’m going to heat style it.

The curly haired person in your life will thank you for it.

Muaves – Satin Hair Wrap

There are tons of hair towels and wraps on the market, but this one is my favourite. I specifically have the Ultra-Lite All Satin Hair Wrap. You can use the “plop” drying method with these, and they help to condition your hair while drying – meaning less frizz.

Another great gift for a curly head in your life.

Accessories

Lululemon Belt Bag

I know, I know. It’s everywhere. But it really is my go to bag – when I don’t need diapers (for the kids….) or when I have the bigger diaper bag but want my wallet accessible. It’s small, cute and in style. I just have the classic style but there are all different styles now – and dupes!

Makes a great “treat yo self” gift – and it’s under 50$.

MVMT Watches (click to access 15% discount – this is an affiliate link)

I have 3 MVMT watches (gifted to me) now and they’re all beautiful. I would definitely invest in another piece. They also have beautiful mens watches – so this could be a “for him” gift too! Although their Black Friday sales are over, it’s a good bigger gift or investment piece for someone who really likes watches. They’re not for everyone but if they’re for you – these are good ones.

I personally don’t gift watches to my husband because it’s like one of those weird superstitions that freaks me out – but any other “him” is fair game.

Ponyback Hats (code: KATEONTHEBLOG for 10% off selected items: Everyday Fit, Adventure Fit, Sporty Fit or Beanie Fit – just for you!)

I recently joined the ponyback crew and I’m OBSESSED. I always get so annoyed that I can’t wear a hat because my hair is up – and with these hats that isn’t a problem because there’s a “hole” or space for your pony or bun! They even have beanies for winter.

This is a thoughtful gift for anyone who rocks the mom bun or ponytail often!!

Self Care

Kindle

For the book lover – but only the one who is ok with giving up or pausing on buying so many acutal books. It was a hard cord for me to cut.. but I was running out of space to store books. When I finally made the switch (yes, I still buy some books even though I own one) I was so happy because it meant I could have so many more books with me when I went somewhere and I didn’t have to carry them! Recommend the 8 GB and larger screen size of this model which I recently upgraded to.

Dr Teal’s Epsom Salts (specifically: soothe&sleep)

Not everyone likes a bath, but for those that do a good bag of epsom salts can hit different. Epsom salts can help you wind down at the end of the day, they’re also good for sore muscles (and hemorrhoids, if you have that issue). I love the lavender ones before bed.

If you’re not sure about the actual salts – you can also get the same Dr Teal’s as a foaming bath soap! Same idea, different formulation.

This is also a great gift for an expecting mama!

Bath Pillow

Pair your salts or soap with a luxury bath pillow – because putting your head and neck back against a tub is truly not comfortable, I’m sorry. A pillow is a must and this luxury one is full disclosure: not the one I have, but I am considering ordering it because it has 5 star reviews and looks comfy + supportive.

Make it a self care night and add some candles – I can recommend the Jones Lounge in particular if you want to shop small in Canada! This could all make a great gift basket (kindle optional of course, or you could replace with their must have wishlist book!).

Local Mississauga Experiences

I will talk about family experiences in a separate post, but things I’d like gifted to me are: spa/pamper days or fitness subscriptions!

I’ve shared before about my favourite local fitness & yoga gym – Fitness by the Lake. They are local but also offer virtual membership which I personally subscribe to and love! Workout live or when you’re able to fit it in and it’s under 60$ a month to access 4 new classes per week. Deb does offer gift certificates.

To pamper myself, I love Mommy Spa (Mississauga RMT) and Beauty and the Blow Dryer (salon). Unfortunately my favourite Mississauga nail salon closed and I’m still searching for a replacement – so I don’t have a recommendation for that one. If you’re looking for a quick hair styling, I also like the Blo (blow dry bar) locations in Port Credit, Etobicoke (across from Sherway) and downtown Oakville.

I didn’t include clothes?! No – because I personally don’t really love when other people buy me clothes unless it’s a specific thing I asked for. So this list is just things I usually would put on a secret santa or gift registry! I hope it’s helpful and stay tuned for my other gift guides.
